Parent Handbook

Mission Statement

The Ozark Girls Chorus aims to create a positive, confidence-building experience through music for girls 3rd through 7th grades, with correct singing technique, performance skills, music theory, and introduction to music history.

Cost / Payment

Yearly tuition: $360
Yearly registration fee: $45 due at end of auditions

Refer-A-Friend Program

Do you know someone who would like to join the chorus? For every referral, you’ll get a free month of tuition (up to three free months for three referrals).

Choose one of these methods for paying the tuition:

  1. Pay the yearly tuition of $360 in one payment
  2. Bring to the first practice of the month a check made out to Ozark Girls Chorus for $40 and drop it in the blue tuition box
  3. Add us as an online bill payee in your online banking and set it to automatically mail us a check each month by the 10th for $40
  4. Pay with PayPal with the links at right (an additional $2.00 per each transaction will be added, so, for instance, the $45.00 registration fee would come out to $47.00)

Fees are due by the 10th of each month, beginning in September. All payments are non-refundable once a singer has been accepted into the Ozark Girls Chorus. Extra payments may be made at anytime during the year to “pay ahead.” Just be sure to indicate what the payment is for (tuition, costume, etc.). There will be no payment booklet. A reminder email will be emailed to each student and family around the end of the month reminding them of fees due. A late fee of $10 will be charged for any payment not received by the 10th of each month. A returned check charge of $20 will be made on all checks returned due to lack of funds or credit card refusals. All singers accounts must be up to date in order to perform.

Registration Fee
The registration fee will cover the following:

  • workbook
  • music for Fall semester
  • music for Spring semester
  • folder
  • spring T-shirt
  • winter sweatshirt (for community performances)

Parent Orientation

We’ll have an orientation for parents at the end of the first practice on August 31, 2010. The Parent Orientation for the Apple Blossoms will happen at 6:45 p.m. and the Parent Orientation for the Magnolias will be held at 8:15 p.m.

Rehearsals/Practice

Rehearsals (practice) will will start on August 31, 2010, and will be held for one hour and 15 minutes on Tuesday nights

Apple Blossoms (3rd, 4th grades)
Practice 5:45 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Magnolias (5th, 6th, 7th grades)
Practice 7:15 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

The rehearsals will be closed to parents, except for one parent volunteer, which we will rotate to be a choir helper. On the last Tuesday of every month parents will be allowed to come inside for the last fifteen minutes of the rehearsal to watch girls perform. A parent orientation meeting will be held the last fifteen minutes of the first practice.

Performances

We will perform around the community along with a Holiday recital and a Spring recital. Check the performance schedule for actual dates.

Costumes

Costumes are professionally made locally and cost $60.

Costume Exchange:
The costume exchange will not take place this year due to the following contingencies: The costumes for this year will be different, the costumes had fitting and materials challenges and the sashes slipped off the dresses due to the materials.

Fundraising?

No – none! There will be no fundraising and no ticket sales required. Public concerts will be free, though we will be passing around a “hat” to help defray concert costs.

Tote Bag

Each week the girls will be expected to have a “tote” bag with their music and their workbook and a sharpened pencil. (I will be offering an Ozark Girls Chorus “tote” bag that will not be required, but it will have their name embroidered on it. More details to come.) I will be ordering new workbooks for each girl. I will be teaching a music lesson the first 10 minutes of class and then they will be expected to complete a weekly music assignment at home. They will bring their completed work the next week and earn tickets to shop every six weeks at the OGC store.

Choir Camp

We will be having a “getting-to-know-you choir camp” at the First United Presbyterian Church. Apple Blossom Singers will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and the Magnolia Singers will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. We will be playing team-building games and doing a short workshop on conflict resolution/communication skills. We hope to prepare our choirs to sing beautifully together, and when we start the season we want these girls to have started a foundation of friendship.

Weekly Practice Location

First United Presbyterian Church, Activity Center, 695 Calvin Street, Fayetteville, AR. (We are not affiliated with the Presbyterian church.)

Many thanks to the San Francisco Girls Chorus for assistance with the handbook!
